STRING QUARTET NO. 1
String Quartet No. 1 is a contemporary three movement work written by M. L. Daniels while he was on a research grant from Abilene Christian University. Dr. Daniels did not follow the course of many twentieth century composers in utilizing atonality and polyrhythmic devices; rather, he employed dissonances which resolve, fugue-like counterpoint, mirroring devices and modality. Each movement is written in three-part form with alternating homophonic and contrapuntal sections.
