First Hanukkah, The

Most Hanukkah songs seem to have a strong beat, lots of syncopation and a minor modality. The First Hanukkah is no exception. The first section should be sung with a great deal of"punch:' While the metronome marking is set at 176, care must be taken to establish a tempo that will allow the text to be understandable. A somewhat slower tempo is permissible if the singers have a problem executing the words at the suggested speed. At the change of key to F minor the character of the vocal line should become smoother, more legato, and this character should be maintained when it is sung against the other,
"punchier" part.

David Eddleman. Three part treble, accompanied. To be sung with a great deal of punch. Grade 2
