Full orchestra Chester was a popular marching song during the American Revolution. This grade 2 arrangement for your orchestra by John Lloyd, recalls the life and spirit in early America.
The Ostinato snare drum gives the principal percussionist an opportunity to be a soloist. The woodwinds and strings "sing" the hymn tune, with the melody appearing in the tenor voice (2nd clarinet, basson, horn and viola). Then, the tempo quickens and "Chester" appears as a marching tune, bright and spirited, just the way it was sung by the soldiers of the American Revolution.
