The Neil A. Kjos Music Company authorizes print-related, mechanical, and synchronization usage of its published materials.

Mechanical License

Mechanical License authorizes the license holder to record a song onto CD/cassette.

The Neil A. Kjos Music Company issues Mechanical Licenses for 500 copies or less. The current statutory royalty rate, as set by the Library of Congress, is $.091 for musical compositions lasting 5 minutes or less, or $.0175 per minute or fraction thereof for all songs over 5 minutes. This rate applies per composition per copy produced.

To request a Mechanical License for 500 copies or less, you will need to submit your request in writing by mail, fax, or via our online form.

Please include the following information in your request:

  1. Title of composition (including the complete name of the book or collection it is from, if applicable), Edition # (found in the corner of our music), and Composer/Arranger
  2. The number of copies requested
  3. Name of school, church, or organization
  4. Complete contact information, including contact name, e-mail, and mailing address and/or fax number

Synchronization License

Synchronization License authorizes the license holder to record a song and its corresponding visual images (such as a concert or performance) on DVD/Videocassette or for public or cable broadcast.

DVD/Videocassette Requests

The royalty rate to record onto DVD/Videocassette is $0.15 per composition for each copy produced.

To request a Synchronization License, you will need to submit your request in writing by mail, fax, or via our online form.

  1. Title of composition (including the complete name of the book or collection it is from, if applicable), Edition # (found in the corner of our music), and Composer/Arranger
  2. The number of copies requested
  3. Name of school, church, or organization

Broadcast Requests

To request a license for Public or Cable Broadcast, you will need to submit your request in writing by mail, fax, or via our online form.

Please include the following information in your request:

  1. Title of composition (including the complete name of the book or collection it is from, if applicable), Edition # (found in the corner of our music), and Composer/Arranger
  2. Name and affiliation of station on which the recording is to be broadcast
  3. Date(s) of the broadcast
  4. Name of school, church, or organization
  5. Complete contact information, including contact name, e-mail, and mailing address and/or fax number

 


 

License to Arrange

To request a License to Arrange, you will need to submit your request in writing by mail, fax, or via our online form.

Please include the following information in your request:

  1. Title of composition (including the complete name of the book or collection it is from, if applicable), Edition # (found in the corner of our music), and Composer/Arranger
  2. The instrumentation of the new arrangement (ex. Marching Band)
  3. Name of school, church, or organization
  4. Complete contact information, including contact name, e-mail, and mailing address and/or fax number

  • A royalty fee will be charged for this license.
  • Requests to arrange compositions in their first year of publication will be denied.
  • The Neil A. Kjos Music Company reserves the right to deny any request for a license to arrange.

 

License to Reprint

It is the policy of the Neil A. Kjos Music Company not to allow reprints when the music is available for sale.

Please note the following exceptions:

Score Copies for Contests and Festivals

The Neil A. Kjos Music Company does not allow the royalty-free reprinting of extra scores for contest or festival adjudicator use.

If the music is out of print, on backorder, or if the scores are not projected to arrive in time for the contest or festival, copy permission may be requested once the necessary score copies have been purchased.

To request permission to copy scores for contests and festivals, you will need to submit your request in writing via our online form.

Please include the following information in your request:

  1. Title of composition (including the complete name of the book or collection it is from, if applicable), Edition # (found in the corner of our music), and Composer/Arranger
  2. The number of copies requested
  3. Name and date of contest/festival
  4. Name of school, church, or organization
  5. Complete contact information, including contact name, e-mail, and mailing address and/or fax number
  6. Please include an Invoice # or other proof that the score has been purchased.

Church Bulletins or School Programs

A license to reprint lyrics-only in church bulletins or school programs may be issued for a royalty fee of $10 per song, per date, for up to 400 copies. Please contact the Neil A. Kjos Music Company regarding the royalty rates for requests over 400 copies.

To request this reprint permission, you will need to submit your request in writing via our online form.

Please include the following information in your request:

  1. Title of composition (including the complete name of the book or collection it is from, if applicable), Edition # (found in the corner of our music, and Composer/Arranger
  2. Date of service or event
  3. The number of bulletins or handouts
  4. Name of school, church, or organization
  5. Complete contact information, including contact name, e-mail, and mailing address and/or fax number

Educational Use & Large-print Reprints

To request permission for the educational use of music and/or lyrics, or to request permission to make large-print reprints of music and/or lyrics, please submit your request in writing by mail, fax, or e-mail.

  1. Title of composition (including the complete name of the book or collection it is from, if applicable), Edition # (found in the corner of our music), and Composer/Arranger
  2. Name of school, church, or organization
  3. Complete contact information, including contact name, e-mail, and mailing address and/or fax number
  4. Please describe your intended use(s) of the composition. If applicable, please include the specific measure numbers that you will be referencing.
