Jigsaw

Jigsaw first presents its main theme in pieces distributed to each section of the band. Composer J. Scott McKenzie wrote each part so that it would not reveal the full musical picture on its own. Musical ideas are distributed across instruments—and sometimes even within sections—so that the piece truly depends on every individual musician’s contribution. The result is a work that reflects cooperation, attention to detail, and careful listening. Extensive cues are included to cover traditionally sparse parts such as the double reeds.
