O'Neal Douglas

O'Neal Douglas, Jr. (b. 1963) is a native of Prairieville, Louisiana. He has taught in the Greenwood, MS and Tupelo, MS Public School Districts, and at Overton High for the Performing Arts in Memphis TN. In 2002, he was the recipient of Louisiana Tech University's "Bandsman of the Year" Award, given annually to outstanding alumni. He is affiliated with ASCAP, Society of Composers Inc., American Composer's Forum, Phi Mu Alpha, Kappa Kappa Psi, and Phi Beta Mu.

O'Neal holds a B.A. in Music Education from Louisiana Tech University, and a M.M. in Music Composition from Central Michigan University. He has also done Graduate work in Trombone and Composition at the University of Mississippi. He has studied trombone with Dan Pittman, Raymond G. Young, Don Lewis, conducting with Thomas Waggoner, John Williamson, and composition with Andrew C. Fox, Raymond Liebau, and David R. Gillingham. He is currently pursuing a D.M.A. in Composition, at Michigan State University, where his primary composition teacher is Jere Hutcheson. He has participated in composition residences with Joseph Butch Rovan, Ricardo Lorenz, and Augusta Read Thomas.
