Philip M. Young

Philip M. Young is a native of Greenville, SC. He received his education at North Greenville University, Furman University, and the Graduate School of Music of Florida State University. In 1987 he was awarded the honorary Doctor of Letters from Campbell University. He became Minister of Music of The First Baptist Church of Henderson, NC in 1959. Upon his retirement in 2004, he was given the title of Composer-in-Residence.

As a composer he has received numerous awards and commissions. Over two hundred of his choral, handbell, and organ compositions have been published. He is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), where he has won numerous annual awards. He is also a member of the American Guild of Organists, and a past president of the North Carolina Baptist Music Conference.
