Ross Petot

Ross Petot (Pe´– to) has taught piano and performed in the U.S. and abroad for more than 25 years. He currently teaches piano at The All Newton Music School in the Boston area. Mr. Petot is also one of the Boston area’s busiest pianists. He is well known to audiences throughout New England as a soloist and as a band member, and has performed at numerous jazz festivals and concerts nationwide. He has been a contributing musician to The Mather Dance Program at Case Western Reserve University and The Washington Ballet at Kennedy Center. Mr. Petot holds a Master’s degree from Bowling Green State University where he studied with renowned pianist Jerome Rose.

Mr. Petot’s compositions have been presented at festivals and competitions, performed with modern dance choreography, and have appeared on numerous recordings by artists in the specialized fields of early jazz and modern ragtime. His approach to composing for students is centered on the idea that compelling and attractive material can inspire the discipline and dedication necessary for learning and mastering complex rhythms and harmonies. As a jazz player, Mr. Petot is intimately familiar with the jazz idiom, and he presents in his pieces an authenticity and depth that marks this great American tradition.
