Vincent Oppido

Vincent Oppido, a native of Long Island, New York, was born in 1986. He began composing in his early teens, and since then has composed numerous concert band, orchestra, choir, chamber, and piano works. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from and is currently a graduate student at George Mason University, where he studies conducting with Anthony Maiello and composition with Mark Camphouse. The George Mason University Symphony Orchestra, the George Mason University Wind Ensemble, the 4-A Texas All-State Band, the MENC All-Northwest Honor Band, and various other all-state and regional ensembles have performed his music. During the summer of 2006, Oppido was selected to participate in the National Band Association's Young Composer Mentor Project, under the mentorship of Mark Camphouse, Julie Giroux, James Curnow, and Robert Sheldon. He also received a Susan & Ford Schumann Scholarship to attend the 2009 Aspen Music School and Festival's Film Scoring Program under the tutelage of Howard Shore, Jack Smalley, and Jeff Rona.

Oppido is co-author of Conducting Nuances: Little Things Mean a Lot by Anthony Maiello (GIA Publications), having composed the music examples that accompany the text. He is also a contributing author in Volume IV of Composers on Composing for Band: Young, Emerging Composers, edited by Mark Camphouse (GIA Publications). He is an active member of the National Association of Music Education (MENC), American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), and the National Band Association.
