Winifred Hyson

Winifred Hyson is a prize winning composer with an undergraduate degree in Physics graduating magna cum laude from Harvard University. Holding the lifetime MTNA Master Teacher Certificate in piano, Mrs. Hyson has always believed in teaching musicianship through ensemble. In her private teaching, she enjoys introducing piano students to some of the songs which are a part of our American musical heritage. Her collection The Blue and the Gray includes many favorite Civil War songs. These duet arrangements were prize winners in the "Children's Music" Category of the 1998 National League of American Penwomen Composition Contest.

In 1994, Winifred was elected to membership in the Mu Phi Epsilon roster of distinguished artist composers, musicologists, and educators. Her compositions have been performed throughout the Eastern states in both festivals and competitions including the prestigious Women Composers Festival in New York City in 1995. She was a prize winner of the Composers Guild Contest in 1995, and the Choral Category of the National League of American Penwomen in 1994.

Winifred is a member of Mu Phi Epsilon, ASCAP, Maryland State Music Teachers' Association, Washington Music Teachers' Association, Music Teachers' National Association, National Federation of Music Clubs, International Association of Women in Music, and National League of American Penwomen.
