Suzanne Dawson

Suzanne Dawson has been an active pianist, teacher, composer and songwriter since 1978. She studied piano with Jackie Mcgehee at the University of Albuquerque and with Anna Husband of the Eastman School of Music. She received a B.M. with honors in piano pedagogy and performance under the tutelage of Dr. Ruth Meyer at Eastern New Mexico University and an M.M. in piano performance with pianist Rita Angel from the University of New Mexico. Postgraduate studies include jazz with Stu MacAskie, songwriting with professional songwriter Rick Beresford and composition with Michael Mauldin. She currently studies composition with Dennis Alexander, whose friendship, mentorship and support has provided ongoing inspiration.
Suzanne has written numerous songs, piano solos and miscellaneous instrumental compositions, and was the 2001 commissioned composer for the New Mexico Music Teachers Association, writing a four-movement piano trio entitled '"Winged Perspectives': which was premiered at the state convention that year.
She was an active member of the New Mexico Women Composer\ guild until they dissolved in the early 2000s. She also served five years as the New Mexico regional coordinator for the Nashville Song Writers Association. She remains an active member of the New Mexico Federation of Music Clubs. Suzanne lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she maintains a thriving piano studio and loves dabbling in graphic art
