Jyoti Hench

Jyoti Hench is a pianist, teacher, and educational composer. She has been playing piano since the summer before she started kindergarten. She earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance and pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma, where her research involved performance psychology for elementary school age pianists. Dr. Hench has presented at numerous national and state music teacher conferences, including the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT), Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC), and College Music Society. She is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM) and has held positions as a member of the MTNA National Conference Planning Committee, state coordinator of the MTNA Junior Performance Competitions for California, official judge for the Southern California Junior Bach Festival, and editor of CAPMT Connect, the official journal of CAPMT.
Dr. Hench’s favorite musical activities include teaching her own children piano, composing, teaching preschool classroom music, and playing piano and singing at her church. Outside of music, she enjoys traveling, camping, reading, and volunteering at her children’s school. She lives in Northern California with her husband and their two children.
