Gilson Silva

Gilson Silva is a doctoral student in music at the Federal University of Bahia – UFBA. He holds a Master's degree in Music and a Bachelor's degree in Conducting from the Federal University of Minas Gerais - UFMG. Additionally, he possesses a degree in music education from the Claretiano University Center and has specializations in music education, as well as educational management and administration from Facibra. A native of the city of Itapecerica - MG, he was born into a distinctly musical family.
Currently, he serves as the conductor of the Symphonic Band and Chamber Orchestra at the Center for Artistic and Technological Training of the Palácio das Artes – Belo Horizonte. He holds the position of artistic director of Estação da Música in Santa Bárbara - MG, overseeing the artistic ensembles of this institution, including the orchestra and choir. As a principal conductor, he has led various groups, including the Symphonic Band of the School of Music of Espírito Santo, Symphony Orchestra of Fames, Youth Wind Orchestra of Fames, Youth Wind Orchestra of Itapecerica, Santa Cecília Musical Corporation of Itapecerica-MG, Orchestra of the School of Music of Nova Lima, and the Trombone Choir of the Federal University of Minas Gerais - UFMG.
Gilson Silva is frequently invited as a professor to participate in festivals and lectures, where he teaches interpretative practices in bands and wind ensembles. Notable among these are festivals such as Vertentes Musicais and Inverno Cultural, organized by the Federal University of São João Del Rei - UFSJ, the International Festival of Brazilian Colonial Music and Early Music at the University Federal of Juiz de Fora - UFJF, and the International Winter Festival of Domingos Martins, among others.
As a composer, he has been actively engaged, with his works premiered in prestigious venues including Sala São Paulo and Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro. As an arranger, his compositions have been performed in countries such as Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States. In 2017, he participated in "The Midwest Clinic" in Chicago. His field of expertise encompasses conducting, composition, and musical analysis.
