Julian Baker

Julian Baker was born into a family of professional musicians. His mother played viola, piano and conducted; his father was a professional cellist. As a child, Julian was surrounded by classical music and began playing piano at age 10, soon to be followed by the trombone. He played in orchestras and music ensembles during his school years, firmly establishing an everlasting love and appreciation of classical music. In his later teenage years, he expanded his musical horizons by listening to rhythm and blues music from American artists along with rock music.

After graduating Leeds College of Music with a B.A. in Jazz, Julian moved to New York City and began working in recording studios. During this time he developed an interest in Latin music. He attended live performances and began writing and producing up and coming artists in his studio. These artists performed at venues in New York and Miami and on local television stations. He also began working and producing with Beats Planet, a production company creating dance and rap music. They received an RIAA Gold Platinum award for one of their productions that received over 80 million views on YouTube.

In 2001 Julian and his family moved to the Hudson Valley in upstate New York to raise their newborn son. Julian went on to establish himself as a piano teacher and in 2009 began a 15-year tenure teaching music history and appreciation classes at Marist College. In 2014 Julian created New Paltz Rock, a company that provided band workshops for young musicians. Many of the bands went on to play at festivals, events and venues throughout the local area. During the worst of the Covid years (2020/21), Julian began composing solo piano music and released his debut album “Moments” in 2025. He continues to compose for piano and, more recently, created MindSoul Music, a production company and YouTube channel featuring original music and videos for relaxation and stress relief.
