David Eddleman

One of the nation's best-known composers of choral music, David Eddleman's work is performed throughout the English-speaking world. In addition, his early activities among the avant-garde won him performances in concert halls in this country and in Europe. His lengthy service as senior music editor with Silver Burdett & Ginn has given him considerable influence in the development of classroom music materials.

Prior to his appointment to Silver Burdett in 1972, Eddleman served on the theory and composition faculty at Boston University, from which he also received the doctor of musical arts degree in 1971. While at Boston University, Eddleman studied composition with Gardner Read. Other degrees include the bachelor of science degree in music education and voice from Appalachian State University (1958) and the master of music degree in composition from Virginia Commonwealth University (1963).

Eddleman has taught at the junior high, high school, college and university levels. His professional conducting experience includes the chorus of the College of St. Elizabeth, the Macdowell Chorale in New Jersey and the Third Army Chorus. He has sung leading roles with a number of professional theaters and opera companies and, as a flautist, has served with the Savannah Symphony and the Atlanta Symphony. He is much sought after as a choral and recorder clinician, adjudicator, and festival conductor and is a special lecturer for the New York City Opera.
