David Mruzek

David M. Mruzek is Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Instrumental Music Activities at Hanover College in southern Indiana, where he directs the Concert Band, College-Community Orchestra, and Jazz Band. He also coordinates several chamber ensembles and teaches Music Literature and instrumental lessons. Dr. Mruzek began his teaching career as the Director of Music at St. Francis de Sales High School in Toledo, Ohio. His early teaching experiences at the college level were at The Ohio State University in Columbus and Newark and also at the Columbus State Community College. Dr. Mruzek continued teaching at the college level in Kansas at Dodge City Community College and then Colby Community College before beginning at Hanover. In the fall of 2004, he was selected as the Outstanding College Music Educator for the Northwest District of the Kansas Music Educators Association. Dr. Mruzek graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Education (Music) degree from the University of Toledo. He has also earned a Master of Arts and doctorate in Music History from The Ohio State University. For his doctoral dissertation on Percy Grainger’s The Warriors, he was awarded the Grainger Medallion from the International Percy Grainger Society. For eleven years, Dr. Mruzek was a member of the 122nd Army Band of the Ohio Army National Guard, advancing to the rank of sergeant; he served as principal clarinetist and librarian for the ensemble. Dr. Mruzek is also actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America.
