Eugenie Rocherolle

Eugénie Ricau Rocherolle, composer, lyricist and pianist, began an early publishing career in choral and band music. With the success of her first piano solo collection released by Kjos in 1978, she soon established herself as one of the leading American composers of piano repertoire. Her music is widely distributed both nationally and internationally.

Born and raised in New Orleans, she graduated from Newcomb College of Tulane University with a BA in music. Her junior year was spent in Paris where she attended classes in score analysis with the late Nadia Boulanger. She was honored as the 1995 Outstanding Newcomb Alumna. Her compositions have been included in the National Federation of Music Clubs Festivals Bulletin, Keys magazine and the Allison Contemporary Piano Collection of the National Guild of Piano Teachers. She is an annual judge for the Guild's composition category. She was a past Connecticut state chairman of the NFMC Junior Composers Contest and served for several years as the Northeast regional chairman.

Commissions include works for solo and duo piano, flute, piano trios, and chorus with orchestra. Songs for solo voice, works for chamber and string orchestra, and musical theater add to her creative output. She is a member of A.S.C.A.P., Connecticut State Music Teachers Association, Music Teachers National Association and the National League of American Pen Women. Her biographical profile appears in the International Who's Who in Music, Baker's Biographical Dictionary of 20th Century Classical Musicians, International Encyclopedia of Women Composers, Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in the East, and The World of Women in Classical Music. For many years she maintained a private studio where she taught piano and composition.
