Basic Music Theory and History for Strings, Books 1 and 2 by Wendy Barden & Terry Shade are visually engaging workbooks written especially for strings! Although roughly correlated with the String Basics™ curriculum, they are the perfect theory workbooks to accompany any string method. Each workbook is divided into 2 sections:

Music Theory - concepts introduced with Books 1 and 2 are organized to match with what most students learn in 1st and 2nd year method books, and include ear training exercises.

Music History - Book 1 features history & development of string instruments and orchestras; biographies of 10 orchestral composers from the 1500s to the 2000s. Students will also read about music-related jobs throughout the centuries. Book 2 is devoted to discovering other bowed string instruments representing different cultures, styles, and traditions from around the world.
