Windy Day Rock
Windy Day Rock was inspired by the strong Santa Ana winds that blow in Southern California. This piece uses the first 6 pitches of the Bb major scale. This piece can be successfully performed with limited instrumentation comprised of flutes, clarinets, alto saxes, trumpets, trombones, and percussion. Composer Christine Grace M. Richardson creates special effects of wind sounds by using simple one-finger trills in the flutes and clarinets, glissandos in the bells, and by having the brass blow air through their instruments.
