Featuring 25 solos for recitals, festivals, informal gatherings, or just for fun, String Basics Solos Book 1 includes a mix of classical themes, folk songs, and original works by Jeremy Woolstenhulme. It was created so that all four string instrument books include the same solos, and in the same keys. When beginning level students start to play solos, many do not have private teachers. Since solo playing is an integral part of the overall musical experience, the introduction of solos in the classroom offers a positive environment for all. For students in a remote or online learning environment, this solo book is absolutely perfect.
String Basics Solos Book 1 starts with very easy solos (grade .5) and gradually progresses in difficulty (grade 1.5). Violin, viola, and cello solos remain in first position. Some bass solos reach high D and require basic shifting. Key signatures, note values, rhythm patterns, slurs, articulations, and road maps are consistent with those introduced in most book 1 methods.
A piano accompaniment book is also available and recorded accompaniments are easily accessed via the “Kjos Interactive Practice Studio.” No additional cost beyond the purchase of a student book. Accompaniments composed and recorded by Kirt Mosier.
